Startup Visa Entrepreneurs at ApplyBoard Raise $230-million at US $3-Billion Valuation

EdTech unicorn ApplyBoard was founded by brothers Martin, Massi and Meti Basiri from Iran, who established their business in Canada under the Startup Visa Program.

ApplyBoard offers a proprietary online platform that helps match students with institutions and assists them with each step of the application. Students can apply to multiple schools at once through ApplyBoard’s standardized application. On the company’s website, ApplyBoard says it has helped 150,000-plus students apply to educational institutions worldwide.

Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan has led a US$230-million financing of ApplyBoard Inc., one of the fastest-growing startups to emerge from the Waterloo, Ont., area in years, with ApplyBoard having an estimated value of more than US$3-billion.

As we emerge from the pandemic, Canada’s Startup Visa Program is an opportunity for newcomers from across the globe to build their companies in one of the most diverse countries in the world.
