He currently holds four patents – with numerous other patent applications in process, in various international jurisdictions. Parm is actively involved with the Angel Investment community as a Board Member and the Executive Director of the Capital Angel Network Charter Member of the Ottawa chapter of TiE – a global organization fostering entrepreneurship.

Mr. Dane Bedward is an independent entrepreneur, investor and strategic business advisor focused on global commercialization of innovative Biopharma and Medical Device products. He is presently an Executive Fellow with Mistral Venture Partners, and Executive in Residence at Invest Ottawa. Prior to founding the strategic advisory company, NBot Inc, he was the Senior Vice-President International Strategic Development and General Manager Eurasia at Genzyme Corporation. He maintained responsibility for Genzyme International Group’s strategic market development and planning process, including designing strategy and infrastructure to bring new products to market as well as managing government relationships.

Fred Davies is CEO of the Davies Group with interests in real estate and hospitality sectors. He is also the President of the Niagara Business & Innovation Fund which grew from a 25 year successful history of lending to SMEs in the Niagara area as part of the national Community Futures Program. The fund has invested in several early stage companies as a leverage for additional Angel investment in the Niagara Region.

A chartered accountant by profession, Rob Douglas is distinguished by his strong entrepreneurial spirit and his wealth of experience in owning and managing private businesses. Mr. Douglas’ business career spans more than three decades, with employment experience ranging from investment counselling with a major Canadian brokerage to senior financial management with a large, multi-plant manufacturing company. Since 1978, Mr. Douglas has pursued interests as an owner and partner in several successful private businesses.

Carmen S. Gicante has an extensive background in business development, technology commercialization, strategic planning, and sales and customer service. His career has encompassed senior positions in the electric utility, telecommunications and research sectors, including Director of Energy Services, Manager Marketing, Manager Corporate Business Development and Director of Business Development – Telecom. He has led corporate initiatives in strategic planning and implementation during times of change and restructuring as well as developing and managing technology commercialization strategies and realizing new business opportunities.

In 2007, Khalid started his research career working for pharmaceutical and medical device companies. In 2009, Khalid transitioned to the tech sector and has spent the last 6 years working for four incubators and 3 technology startups across Alberta, supporting their technology management and business development needs.

Blake Witkin is Chair of the Board of Directors of The Network of Angel Organizations – Ontario. Blake is a managing partner and founding board director of high-tech start-up Atra Vision Inc. Following a degree in Business Administration from Western’s Richard Ivey School of Business, Blake became an executive and private investor of Image Processing Systems Inc., a TSX-listed corporation that was ranked #1 in growth by Profit Magazine.

Colin has over 40 years of computer hardware and software experience. He is currently board chair of the Angel One investor network, and a past board member of York Angel investors. He was also President of Lotus Development Canada and Apollo Computer Canada. In Europe he was a Managing Director of Lotus Development, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Entrust and was Chair of the European Board at Software Spectrum. His early stage experience includes sitting on startup boards in Canada, the UK, France, Spain and Monaco. He is also a past board member of the Industry Technology Association of Canada, and the UK/Canada business council.

Alan Yang is a mechanical engineer by training with extensive experience working in power plants in China. Having since immigrated to Canada, Mr. Yang is now the Vice-President of the China Canada Angels Alliance (“CCAA”), a Toronto-based organization devoted to building a cross-border eco-system for Canadian early-stage companies to expand to one of the fasting-growing, large markets in the world, China. By working with the CCAA, where one of his chief responsibilities is deal-screening – more than 200 deals per year – he has had this chance to get involved in the early stages of companies while also positioning them for expansion internationally in China. Alan enjoys working with Ontario’s talented and intelligent entrepreneurs, who teach him more about the Canadian perspective every day.
